The previous 20 minutes was a struggle... but this guys managed to get the window + frame out without breaking anything.
Yesterday the workers draw out the shape of the bathroom tower in the soil behind the house to indicate where to build it.
They did not start building it.
That was lucky – the shape was wrong and Annette was on the spot ready to show the right drawing to one of the workers that made the correction immediately.
This morning when Thomas arrived @ 8 am it was the big break through. There is a HUGE hole in the wall where the entrance to the bath room on the ground floor will be.
So now we are only missing the construction on the top floor before everything is chaos. Then we will be surounded by it from all sites.
The site is talk of town.
All the locals stop and watch what’s going on when they pass by. It’s quite interesting us to watch them – by looking at the different type of people we’re convinced that our location is right.
We talk a lot about our ambition, how to start up etc. It is very easy to make a BIG BANG with coverage in all important media that will attract a big crowd from day one. But since none of us have experience in neither running a hotel NOR running a tea lounge it is important that we get a slow and quiet start.
As Thomas prefer to call it: a secret start.
He doesn’t mind having an empty hotel and restaurant for the first 2 – 3 months. That seems impossible – yesterday he got the first request from a potential long term resident that asked for a price for a room for September.
The short ones
- Dawa ordered two metal closets in black. We need something for our clothes when we mowe in next week.
- Subisu came by to start up the internet connection. The young guy pulled a wire/cable from the house next door via the tree in the garden through a ´hole’ in the kitchen wall into what is going to become one of the best rooms. Thomas asked him kindly but firmly to place the router in the future office and to drop the idea about cables in trees.
- Our friend – and long term Kathmandu resident – Walter came by. He was surprised to see the progress. When we talked with him last Sunday he sounded very skeptical when we told him that we are planning to open on September 1st. he is not skeptical any more. He suggested a birthday party on 8th September (his) – Thomas suggested the 14th (his) – so why not go for the 11th.
… and see what we found in all the mess
