I celebrated my 50th birthday exactly a year ago in Berlin. I’ve been there hundreds of times (Copenhagen is just 6 hours by bus from Berlin) and know all parts of Berlin.
Or that’s what I thought…
When I got a guided Berlin tour as a birthday present from my family – my first thoughts were: Why on Earth did they spend money on that!!!???
My surprise was big when I found out that the tour was guided by an American Street Artist who lived and performed street art in Berilin on his 6th year.
He knew all the murals, all the streets, all the gates all the abandoned workshops etc. that ‘framed’ the most fantastic street art you can dream of. He knew all the artists, all their stories, all the gossip, all the problems etc.
And that was what the tour was about.
What an amazing experience getting introduced to a city you thought you knew so well – and then finding out you didn’t.
Today I had the same experience.
I went to the release of Kolor Kathmandu’s new book. The book about all the fantastic Street Art that are spread all over Kathmandu – NO – all over Nepal that has been created the last 18 months.
I have the book in front of me… amazing works. And what a thrill to find our that the city you thought you know is completely unknown to you.. at least from a street art POV.
